Lee S. Gross, M.D. ​

 

Lee S. Gross, M.D., is the founder of our North Port practice and a multiple-time recipient of the North Port Sun Readers’ Choice Award for Best Physician.

 

Originally from Ohio, he earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University and completed his residency in Family Medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland, where he was elected chief resident. Dr. Gross achieved board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine and has cared for patients in the North Port community since opening the practice in 2002.

In 2004, after North Port was denied a hospital by the state, Dr. Gross played a vital role in establishing the community’s 24-hour emergency care facility, now operated by Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He later worked at the state level to help repeal Florida’s certificate-of-need laws, removing a major regulatory barrier that had prevented North Port from developing a hospital of its own. A new hospital is now under construction in the community. He remains committed to expanding affordable access to care throughout the region and across the nation through healthcare innovation and market-based reform.

Dr. Gross has extensive experience in medical leadership and healthcare governance. He served for more than a decade in leadership at an HCA hospital, including approximately ten years on its Medical Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. He has also served as President of the Charlotte County Medical Society, as a delegate to the Florida Medical Association, and as an appointed member of the FMA Council on Medical Economics and Practice Innovation.

Dr. Gross is a national speaker and advocate for Direct Primary Care and serves as President of the nonprofit Docs 4 Patient Care Foundation. His healthcare policy expertise has led him to testify twice before the U.S. Senate and to consult with the White House, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury on healthcare reform.

In 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Dr. Gross to the Florida Board of Medicine, and he was subsequently confirmed by the Florida Senate. As a member of the Board, he helps oversee physician licensure, professional standards, and disciplinary matters in support of safe, competent medical care throughout Florida.

Although his work has taken him into hospital boardrooms, legislative hearings, and national healthcare policy discussions, Dr. Gross considers the North Port practice his professional home, and his foremost commitment remains providing personal, accessible care to the patients and families who have entrusted him with their health.
